Adding the API Key to Google Maps


After you have added Google Maps to your SiteCliq site, make sure to retrieve and add Google API key. This key is essential for displaying the map on your live site.

Google Maps Platform offers a free $300 yearly credit for Maps. With the $300 yearly credit, the vast majority of customers find their use cases are completely free. After this credit has been used, you will be asked to upgrade your account to get unlimited access to all of Google Cloud Platform.


Step 1. Getting your API key

1. Open Google Maps Platform and click Get Started with your Google account:
2. Upon clicking on the button, you will see a pop-up window where you need to choose your country and agree to Google Cloud Platform Terms of Service:
3. After you click the Continue button, fill the rest fields of the form to proceed with creating your billing account:
4. In the pop-up window, you will receive the confirmation message that your free trial starts successfully. Click Got it to continue the registration:
5. To enable Google Maps Platform, choose Maps in the product list and click Next:
6. Answer a small poll in order to improve your user experience with the platform and click Next. You can skip this step as well:
7. Finally, click Enable to receive your API key:
8. Copy your API key to the clipboard and click Done:

Step 2. Enabling your Maps in the editor

1. Open the site's editor, hover over the map and click on the "gear" to access its Settings:


2. Paste the API key in the relevant field:

3. Publish your site for the changes to appear live.

Tip: it is highly recommend by Google to restrict your API key in order to provide added security and ensure only authorized requests are made with your API key. For more information on this topic, view Google Maps Platform guide.
